Does my child have to complete Parts 1 and 2 before using Part 3?

While your child can start Part 3 without completing Parts 1 and 2, we recommend making sure they feel confident in many of the skills from Parts 1 and 2 before beginning Part 3. Here are some signs they might be ready:

  • Have they developed what's known as automaticity (which is the ability to quickly and accurately read words)? Are they reading faster than they did at the start of Part 2?
  • Can they accurately answer some of the reading comprehension questions at the end of Part 2's books—and summarize the who, what, when, where and why of what they've read?
