While they don’t have to complete Part 1 in order to use Part 2, we do recommend that they feel confident with most of the skills from Part 1 before advancing to Part 2. Here’s how to tell if they’re ready:
- Do they have sound awareness? With the word "sunflower" for example, are they able to find the two smaller words—sun and flower? Can they tell you what sound that word begins with? Do they know which letter sound "sunflower" begins with?
- Can they identify both upper and lowercase letters and their most common sounds?
